Coolhousing upgraded its network, the shutdown took just few minutes

On the night of 13 May, Coolhousing company upgraded a network in its data center. Replacement of the router to ensure connectivity redundancy and other new features for its customers, was completed without any problems with planned connectivity shutdown taking just few minutes.

Data center network upgrade in Vinohradská Avenue in Prague was executed as planned and with no problems. The clients may see a very short previously announced connectivity shutdown at around 3 o'clock, which was caused by upgrade of the operating systems of main routers. It was necessary to upgrade the network in order to commission a new geographically remote location in Trestel data center in Sitel Telehouse.

Router upgrade and network operation monitoring

As part of the network improvement, the upgrade of the existing Juniper MX80 router was performed and a brand new router of the same type was installed to ensure router redundancy within the Coolhousing data center network.

Newly deployed router firmware supports an advanced network operation monitoring module. Now the router monitoring is not software based but it takes advantage of a special hardware module. This allows the operator to get more information on network status, which leads to higher network security and faster solution of incidents. Coolhousing will therefore be able to further improve the quality of its services.

Second location and redundant connectivity

Network improvement in the data center allowed Coolhousing to implement a fully passive 10Gbps optical connectivity to Sitel Telehouse, where the company will also move one of its connecting lines to local NIX peering node. Coolhousing will also use Sitel Telehouse as foreign connectivity line through Interoute operator. These changes will allow Coolhousing to get a full connectivity redundancy.

In case of failure of the existing route between the data center and GTS Telehouse the data center will be supplied from Sitel. In case of failure of Sitel connectivity, the servers in Sitel will be able to communicate through the existing data center. And finally, in case of failure between the data center and Sitel the inter-connection of both locations will be ensured by a private VLAN, through NIX.

Company technicians are now working on improvement of network monitoring capabilities in order to provide the end customers with new benefits in connection with Coolhousing technologies in Sitel as early as possible. For instance, in just few days a direct connectivity between Coolhousing and Slovak SIX peering node will be established. In Coolhousing, this spring and summer will be marked by innovations and service quality improvements.
