AIVAZOVSKY - PAINTER OF THE SEA * From 17 March until 10 July 2011 the Bank Austria Kunstforum in Vienna is presenting a premiere: the breathtaking work of the Russian marine painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky

The Bank Austria Kunstforum in Vienna (Austria) is organising the first major show in Central Europe ever devoted to Aivazovsky - a legend in his lifetime, an artist who was acclaimed in international exhibitions and is today a household word in Russia and the Ukraine. The exhibition shows a cross section of his spectacular oeuvre, which covers seven decades. Loans for this ambitious exhibition project have been contributed by the Aivazovsky Gallery Feodosiya, the State Russian Museum St Petersburg, The Peterhof State Museum Reserve St Petersburg, the Central Navy Museum St Petersburg, the Museum for Russian Art Kiev and the San Lazzaro Monastery (Venice, Italy). Many of the impressive, large-format marine pictures are leaving their home museums for the very first time for this exhibition.
