Books to Bytes: Qidenus Technologies – Market Leader in Automatised Book Digitization – Celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary

Qidenus Technologies, founded 2004 as spin-off from University of Economics Vienna, has passed through several demanding and educating phases from the beginning. It has subsequently become a steadily growing technology enterprise. After 4 years of R&D - together with two mechatronic engineering bureaus in Austria – in 2008 Qidenus established its first operating business unit: the development and production of high-end automatic book scanners.

Since 2011 Qidenus has been proud to be market leader in the field of robotic book scan manufacturing. It has access to a distribution network of more than 70 international partners and operates its devices at biggest libraries and archives around the globe, e.g.: Library of Alexandria, Royal Library of Denmark, National Library of Turkey, National Archives of Canada, and National Library of Qatar.

Besides the production and distribution of book scanners, today Qidenus covers the complete digitization process. Specialised digitization centers in Europe, Asia and USA include, for instance, logistics and insurance of the material, workforce education, scanning, postprocessing and dataflow management.

Conversion tools from Abbyy or Nuance Communication are integrated within Qidenus Software – delivering quality data, both structured and searchable. Endformats like TIFFs or EPUBs may be chosen and, on demand, the ebooks can be uploaded to collaborating platforms such as Internet Archive or Biblioboard. In addition cooperations with media partners like Bertelsmann and Manstein Publishing are leading into the next decade of digital economy – Qidenus proceeds.
