Visteon Provides Practical and Affordable Technologies for the New-Generation European Ford Focus

KERPEN, Germany, Nov. 5, 2004 (PROTEXT) - The new-generationFord Focus for the European market features a variety of Visteon(NYSE: VC) developed systems and technologies including theworlds first halogen adaptive lighting system.
The new Ford Focus builds on the success of its predecessor,a car that has consistently dominated the sales charts acrossEurope and is recognized as being class-leading in styling,packaging and driving dynamics. For this important new-generationcar, Visteon has worked closely with Ford to develop innovativetechnologies that are both affordable and accessible for theFocus driver.
Providing an industry-first application of the halogenAdvanced Front Lighting System (AFS), Visteons adaptive system isdesigned to adjust light distribution according to vehicle speedand direction. The low beam swivels dynamically and cansignificantly improve illumination in curves and while turningat intersections.
Superior quality, look and feel of the vehicle interior is ofcrucial importance in the new Ford Focus. Visteon supplies aninstrument panel delivering a high level of craftsmanship,combining hard and soft surfaces in the same manufacturingprocess. The result is a softer touch and quality-feel morecommonly seen in larger vehicles. Additionally, Visteon hasengineered and manufactured the instrument cluster for the Focus.
Visteons expertise in the development of climate controlsystems is recognized across the automotive industry. For the newFord Focus, Visteon provides a dual-zone heating, ventilation andair-conditioning (HVAC) system and has employed its D-EATC (DualElectronic Automated Temperature Control) technology, whichallows individual selection of temperatures for the driver andpassenger sides of the vehicle.
Visteon, the second largest manufacturer of originalequipment car radios globally, has teamed up with Sony toprovide superior acoustics quality for Focus drivers. Therelationship combines Sonys sound management capability withVisteons electronics and vehicle integration expertise.
Visteons leadership in developing components and systems thathave an impact on performance, fuel economy and driving dynamicsare also evident in other components supplied for this new model.The powertrain control module, halfshafts, steering, fuel vaporstorage system, fuel delivery module, electronic throttlecontrol, fuel charging assembly, intercooler, EGR cooler and theair induction system are also engineered and supplied by Visteon.
The Focus engine lineup boasts an impressive breadth ofperformance and economy from the1.4L gasoline engine up to the2.0L direct-injection turbocharged diesel offering. Visteons airinduction system supports all engine variants with 60,000-kilometer (about 37,000-mile) servicing, European Stage Vemission requirements, and engine-specific acoustic tuning tooffer impressive levels of sound quality to the driver andpassengers.
