Gaillard Elected to Board CHICAGO (ots-PRNewswire) - U.S. Can Corporation (NYSE: USC)held its 1999 Annual Shareholders' Meeting today and electedCharles W. Gaillard, president of General Mills, to a three yearterm on its Board of Directors. Also re-elected to the Board ofDirectors were current Board members Ricardo Poma, managingpartner and chief executive officer of Grupo Poma, and Louis B.Susman, vice chairman of Investment Banking and managing directorof Salomon Smith Barney Inc. "Mr. Gaillard will be an outstanding addition to our Board ofDirectors," says U.S. Can Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,Paul W. Jones. "His operations and marketing background willenhance our already strong Board." Mr. Gaillard joined General Mills in 1966 and since that timehas advanced through various food marketing management positions,becoming executive vice president in 1989 and vice chairman in1993. From 1989 to 1993 he was chief executive officer of CerealPartners worldwide, a joint venture of General Mills and Nestle,S.A. He assumed his position as president of General Mills in1995. A director of Whitman Corporation, Mr. Gaillard also serves onthe board of Overseers for the Carlson School of Management ofthe University of Minnesota and is vice president of theMinnesota Orchestral Association Board. He is currently standingfor election to the Board of Directors of Valspar Corporation. In other business, shareholders voted to approve the U.S. CanCorporation 1999 Equity Incentive Plan, which would allow forstock options, which would vest upon achievement of certainCommon Stock price hurdles, to be issued to attract and retainquality personnel.
