United Nations Launches Millennium Assembly Web-Site http://www.un.org/millennium

New York (PROTEXT) - The United Nations is launching today anew web-site for the Millennium Assembly and Millennium Summit ofthe United Nations next year. The Millennium Summit, which will open on September 6, 2000,at United Nations headquarters in New York, is expected to be thelargest-ever gathering of Heads of state and Heads of governmentand will consider challenges facing the United Nations in the newcentury and how best to meet them. Design for the web-site was supported by the TogetherFoundation, a private operating foundation committed to providingassistance to non-profit organizations, United Nations agenciesand other intergovernmental organizations with their information,networking, database and telecommunications needs. The TogetherFoundation is in special consultative status with the UnitedNations Economic and Social Council. "The Together Foundation undertook this project because it isin keeping with our mission to promote the open flow ofcommunication and exchange of ideas among nations," said MarthaVargas, Executive Director of the Together Foundation. The new web-site, which, initially, will be launched inEnglish, can be accessed at http://www.un.org/millennium. In addition to providing updated information on the MillenniumAssembly and Millennium Summit, the web-site provides informationon preparations leading up to the Summit, including UnitedNations regional hearings.
