PRAGUE June 30 (PROTEXT) - For the ninth time, the Food-Service professional magazine of the hotel industry, gastronomyand special catering has put together a table of the hotels withlargest turnovers in the Czech Republic, on the basis ofquestionnaires sent to a total of 200 hotels. In the finalorder, the Marriott Hotel Prague placed, for the first time, first with the total net turnover of CZK 618 million. TheRenaissance Prague Hotel ranked second (CZK 513.93 million) andthe Corinthia Towers Hotel was third (CZK 482.46 million). Thesurvey respondents are the hotels of domestic and foreign chains, big hotels, independent private hotels and spa hotels. Not allof the big hotels, however, influenced the final order becausethe foreign management of the hotels Hilton, Mövenpick, DonGiovanni and, newly this year, also the interContinental Prague, refused to provide the data for the survey.
Nearly 59% of respondents recorded lower turnovers, comparedto 2001, 35% could proudly report improved results and thesituation of 6% respondents did not change.
The floods were responsible for the lower average occupancy(61.09% in 2001, only 55.87% in 2002). The average room pricealso dropped, as well as, of course, the hotels' turnovers. Mosthotel owners are optimistic, though, hoping for the improvementof their situation this year. In addition to the impact of thewar conflict in Iraq on tourism, the hotel owners say the biggestproblems they have to face is the lack of quality and loyalemployees. More then one-half of the respondents will have torenovate of completely reconstruct their hotels.
