The British Forces Broadcasting Services Run a New Transmission Scheduling and Acquisition System

Chalfont St. Peters, Buckinghamshire, U.K., October 21, 1999(PROTEXT): The Czech company DCIT has completed the rollout oftheir transmission scheduling and acquisition system serving theTV station of the British Forces Broadcasting Services.

Following a selection procedure that started early this year,the Services Sound And Vision Corporation, which runs BFBS, chosePrague-based DCIT to become the provider of their newtransmission scheduling and acquisition system. The contract wasawarded in March. "DCIT won the contract by their evident honestyand thorough understanding of our business processes", says BFBSPresentation Editor Bob JonesIn course of the implementation project the DCIT Oracle-basedclient/server solution PROVYS, which is used by the Czech TVsince November 1997, was revised considerably. The resultingsoftware product PROVYS/2 has numerous novel features, includingnew efficient graphical user interfaces for key transmissionscheduling operations. Its modules cover programme acquisitionand production, transmission scheduling from seasonal schema todetailed daily schedules, tape library management, and anextensive programme catalogue with a rich variety of descriptionoptions.

The implementation team, which moved from Prague to ChalfontSt. Peters in July, has "lived to the expectation it raised whencompeting for the contract", to quote Steve Mylles, BFBSController managing the station.The project owes its timely progress (the BFBS business cycle didnot allow for slippages and indeed, none were registered) tosmooth co-operation of all the involved parties, starting withthe customer and including Phantasia Ltd, which supplied theinfrastructure and supervised the project for SSVC.

About BFBS and SSVC:

SSVC is a registered charity that runs BFBS Forces Television& Radio under contract to the UK Ministry of Defence. The 24-hourtelevision service transmits on two satellites to personnelserving as far afield as Canada and the Falkland Islands. Themajority of the audience is in Germany and Cyprus.
