Sturgeon and caviar from aquaculture: United Food Technologies AG leads a successful new project

Weinheim/Jessen (Germany) 13. December (PROTEXT/ots) - Caviar has becomeone of the rarest and most expensive delicacies. Over-fishing of sturgeonstocks in the wild mean that the high demand can only be covered usingsustainable aquaculture. United Food Technologies AG (UFT) haslong-standing experience and leading expertise in this field. The companyis currently leading a successful new project in Germany(Jessen/Sachsen-Anhalt).
The operators of this aquaculture facility commissioned UFT withundertaking the complete planning, project development and implementationof the site. Following several months of building work, the start-up phasefor the new site began with the introduction of the first 2,500 sturgeon(Acipenser Baerii = Siberian sturgeon) on Thursday 13th December. Furthertransportations will be carried out in the first quarter of 2008 until allof the breeding basins are filled. The age of the fish is between 9 monthsand 4 years so that production and processing can begin on-site in 2008,according to the operators.

Sturgeon and caviar have become a rarity because of over-fishing. More andmore companies, restaurants, hotels and airlines are turning to the highquality of aquaculture. When it comes to marketing the products from thesesites, UFT offers operators and investors complete innovative solutionsincluding the product marketing. The company has, for example, establisheda close partnership with Petrossian, one of the oldest and most highlyregarded caviar companies in the world.
UFT´s customers are based worldwide. Besides this project in Jessen UFTrealises two further projects for international investors at the moment. Inthe United States and Abu Dhabi UFT erects caviar plants with an overallcapacity of app. 44 tons of Caviar per year.
