WILTON, Conn. (PROTEXT) - Startech Environmental Corp. (OTCBulletin Board: STHK), a fully reporting company, today announcedthe signing of a Strategic Alliance Agreement with UXBInternational, Inc., a private company, located in Ashburn,Virginia. UXB is one of the largest internationally recognized explosiveordnance disposal companies in the world. Unexploded Ordnance andExplosive Ordnance refers to munitions and weapons such aslandmines, rockets, bomblets, mortars, propellants and ChemicalWarfare Materiel found on military bases, firing and bombingranges, and former war zones scattered throughout the world. Joseph S. Klimek, Startech Sr. V.P. and Chief OperatingOfficer, said, "The UXB Startech Alliance is a unique andformidable team selling our combined equipment and services toindustrial and governmental markets throughout the world. Wecompliment each other perfectly; they will provide the expertiseand the people; we will provide the Plasma Waste Converters (PWC)to safely destroy the munitions on-site. The team is alreadyworking on two prospective ordnance contracts off-shore." Long after the guns fall silent, people, especially children, continue to be maimed and killed and communities remaindisplaced. Landmines and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) present aserious problem of global proportions. Recent estimates indicatethat nearly 70 million landmines contaminate lands in more than60 countries. Vast tracts of land are unsafe for living andremain unavailable for productive use. Some progress has beenmade through the efforts of many national, international and non-governmental agencies that have worked with private and publicorganizations to eliminate the threat posed by these "HiddenKillers." UXB provides the people, licenses and total services toeliminate the hazards associated with the identification, recovery, transportation, storage, and disposal of ChemicalWarfare Materiel, toxic industrial chemicals, and other extremelydangerous wastes. The Company has a proven track recordperforming successful recovery and remediation services on avariety of Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS), on active andabout-to-be-closed Department of Defense installations, and othergovernment and private properties that still contain munitionsand other hazardous materials. Many military installationsdesignated for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), and landscontrolled by federal agencies other than the Department ofDefense contain large areas contaminated by dangerous unexplodedand explosive munitions. Large water areas and vast tracts of land threatened by oldmunitions all over the world have to be completely cleaned-upbefore they can be returned for safe use by the community. Someof the munitions date back to the beginning of the Century. Richmond H. Dugger, III, Ph.D., President and Chief ExecutiveOfficer of UXB said, "The PWC, when properly applied, representsthe total solution for a multitude of challenges in the lifecycle of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), from the point of discoveryand identification, forward. The PWC system, to be supplied andoperated in this Alliance, is completely safe, environmentallyfriendly, cost effective, and fully compliant with all existingand proposed laws within the regulatory framework." Dr. Dugger also said, "Now we have exactly the right equipmentat exactly the right time. UXB views this Strategic Alliance as acornerstone in a revolutionary leap in advanced appliedtechnology to the Unexploded Ordnance Industry."
