GENEVA (PROTEXT) - Open Port(R) Technology Inc., the leadingprovider of Internet messaging solutions, announced today anexpansion of its regional sales operations throughout Europe totap the European, Middle Eastern, and African markets forInternet services. In separate announcements today, Open Port announced twoEuropean customers -- AUCS and Tele Danmark -- as the firstcarriers to deploy IP fax services in Europe. According to Cheryl Mayberry, senior vice president/generalmanager of worldwide sales and marketing for Open Port, the moveis strategic for the company since Europe is the second largestmarket for international outbound fax, behind the United States.Industry analysts predict that fax revenues in Europe will growto $430 Million in 2002. In addition to outbound faxingopportunities, analysts predict revenues for unified messagingservices in Europe will grow at an even greater rate, to $9.4Billion in 2002. "The European market represents an enormous opportunity forus," Mayberry said. "The business case for European customers iseven more compelling because there is so much cost savingsassociated with sending international messages over IP. We'relooking to help European service providers tap into that sourceof new revenue by providing solutions that will allow them tooffer services such as fax, voice and unified messaging overtheir existing network infrastructures. It makes a lot of sensefor us to have a direct, local presence there." Since IP LaunchPad debuted in March of this year, Open Porthas announced customers in all regions of the world, includingAsia, North and South America, and Europe. Several of Open Port'sEuropean customers have already begun deploying Internet faxsolutions based on its flagship IP LaunchPad platform, dubbed theOS for IP applications. As more customers deploy IP LaunchPad,they will be able to partner with other Open Port-enablednetworks to expand the reach of their existing networks. Inaddition, there are nine other European customers currentlytrialing IP LaunchPad. "The opportunities for our IP messaging solutions in Europeare very promising," David Keene, General Manager for Open PortEMEA (Europe/Middle East/Africa) said. We can offer them a new revenue stream by givingthem the opportunity to broaden their services with IP fax andother IP messaging services. Together with our technologypartners, Open Port is in a position to dominate the worldwidemarket for IP messaging." According to Keene, the European operations will initiallytarget carriers and ISPs with Open Port's comprehensive suite ofIP faxing technology. Other applications based on IP LaunchPad,such as voice-over-IP and other unified messaging services willfollow next year. "We're the only IP fax solutions provider who can lay claim tohaving a global, IP fax solution in deployment today," saidMayberry.
