Motorola's End-to-End Digital Video Solution Selected for the Launch of Hungary's First Digital Cable TV System

BUDAPEST (Hungary) March 23 (PROTEXT/PRNewswire) - Hungariandistributor, Kabelkon, selects Motorola's digital videosystem and consumer solutions to support distribution agreementswith six regional cable operators.

Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Kabelkon Kft today announcedthat Motorola has been selected to supply end-to-end digitalvideo solutions for the complete roll out of Hungary's firstmajor digital cable TV (CATV) system. The six operatorssupporting this initiative are Pr-Telecom Rt, Hirsat-2000Kft, Szarvasi Informatika, Juhasz Antenna Kft, Lat-Sat Kft andDunakanyar Informatika. The system will be delivered to operatorsby Motorola's Hungarian partner and distributor Kabelkon Kft.

This partnership will enable operators to initially provide arich entertainment experience to a minimum of 30,000 subscribers.

The new cable system will use Motorola's DVi1000 set-topterminals to provide digital video entertainment services insubscribers' homes and Motorola's MediaCipher(R) conditionalaccess solution that is responsible for the secure transmissionof video services from the headend. Currently deployed in morethan 2,000 headends worldwide, Motorola's MediaCipher is oneof the industry's most robust and secure conditional accesstechnologies.

Kabelkon and Motorola have developed an innovative businessmodel to off-set the high fixed costs traditionally associatedwith the implementation of CATV services for small, regionalnetworks in Hungary. The master headend, located in the AxeleroAdatpark, Budapest, is operated and owned by Kabelkonand is securely shared by various operators across the region.The master headend will support a large number of individualoperators and consumers.
