(ADI) today announced General Motors (NYSE: GM) has selectedADI's SIMsystem platform for GM's Next Generation Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulators. GM uses HIL technology to design, verify and validate control strategies used in the electroniccontrollers that now permeate automotive systems. GM chose ADI'sSIMsystem because of the open architecture of both the hardwareand the software and the seamless integration with other softwaretools in use by GM. The open architecture will allow GM toquickly adopt advances in embedded control systems as well assensor technology. The SIMsystem is ADI's family of real-time products for HILsimulation and rapid prototyping. It includes ADI's Real-TimeStation (AD RTS) and the ADvantage Integrated DevelopmentEnvironment (IDE). At the heart of the HIL simulator will be anADI SIMsystem which will interact with one or more vehiclecontrol systems via electronic interfaces. The HIL simulationapproach ensures a more thorough analysis of control systemhardware and software in a repeatable laboratory environment. "General Motors' goal is to reduce costs, time to market andimprove overall quality in the development of its electroniccontrol systems, across all vehicle platforms," said JohnMcIntosh, ADI President and CEO.
