European Internet Churn Rate At 25% Reports The Strategis Group

Washington (PROTEXT) - In its new report, European InternetUser Trends: 1999, The Strategis Group finds that nearly one infour Internet users in Britain and France are likely to switchInternet service providers (ISPs), although German usersexhibited lower churn potential. High costs of service, resultingfrom phone charges for time spent online, make for an expensiveInternet bill and users are seeking ISPs which offer lower or noInternet access fees. "Internet users in the three largest European marketsdemonstrate a high likelihood of switching their ISP because ofprice," states consultant Neil Rochlani. "This is particularlytrue in the UK where the huge migration to free Internet accessentirely changed the access services marketplace." Based on a representative survey sample of 750 British, Frenchand German adult Internet users, European Internet User Trends:1999 provides in-depth user profiles, market segmentation andusage behavior including online purchasing. Despite being online for an average of less than 2 years, over50 percent of British and French residential Internet users haveswitched service providers. In the U.S., where the averagelength of service is almost 3 years, only 37 percent of usershave switched ISPs. Moreover, nearly one out of every fourInternet users (24 percent) in the UK intends to change ISPs inthe next three months.
