Esker's thin fax client and Faxgate forNT version 6.0 support multiple user profiles, enabling privatephone books, cover pages and fax message store for individualusers. Enhanced E-mail Integration The Faxgate Lotus Notes connector has been improved in version6.0 to provide tighter integration with the Lotus Notes Userdatabase. Through the connector, Faxgate now integrates directlywith the Lotus Notes User database, eliminating the need toimport data from it to the Faxgate User database and allowing theFaxgate administrator to configure users centrally. The connectoralso has expanded support for the international character set.Certification for the connector with Lotus Notes version 5 isunderway and expected by the end of November, 1999. Faxgate's SMTP connector has been enhanced to process messagesfor faxing that are UUencoded, providing additional support fornewer SMTP Unix mail systems. The Microsoft Exchange connector inFaxgate for NT version 6.0 now has the ability to configureincoming fax messages into the type supported by Octel's UnifiedMessenger(TM), allowing it to be the fax component of a unifiedmessaging strategy for enterprises who are customers of LucentTechnologies' Octel division. Improved Host Links With roots in the high-end, production-faxing segment of themarket, a Faxgate strength has always been its ability to connectto host systems. Version 6.0 extends the role of Faxgate as aproduction fax server by natively supporting Xerox Metacode, oneof the most widely used forms of digital-to- paper output inlarge enterprises. Enterprises with applications that outputdocuments in the form of Xerox Metacode can now fax them usingFaxgate as well. Client Enhancements Enhancements to the Faxgate client software, LanFax Manager, include a direct fax forward feature that allows a Faxgate userto forward received faxes directly to any user listed in theFaxgate user database. This feature is usable when e-mail isunavailable as a means of forwarding received faxes, or when itis undesirable to use e-mail for that purpose. A new ODBC link makes possible the import of phone bookentries from other ODBC compliant phone books into the LanFaxManager client. TCP/IP support has been added to the LanFax Manager to improveconnectivity to the Faxgate server in enterprise environmentswith routers and hubs that do not allow NETBEUI packets on thenetwork. Faxgate for NT version 6.0 now supports the stand aloneFaxgate Outlook client that allows users to send and receivefaxes from Outlook without installing the Faxgate Exchangeconnector.
