Server Revenues Lyon/France, Stillwater/ Okla. (PROTEXT) - Esker todayannounces the availability of Faxgate for Windows NT version 5, atrue- enterprise class fax server with production fax capability, through the Alcom reseller channel. Esker acquired Alcom, aMountain View, CA-based fax server vendor in February, 1999.Alcom's fax-client technology is integrated with the recentlyannounced Faxgate version 5, making it simple for Alcom users totransparently migrate to an enterprise-class fax server withoutuser disruption. Today's announcement makes Faxgate available toover 1,300 Alcom resellers for the first time, providing theircustomers with an upgrade path and allowing them to sell into thefast growing and more lucrative enterprise fax servermarketplace. Resellers have historically only sold workgroup, departmentaland enterprise LAN fax solutions. The production fax servermarket, formerly the domain of a few, narrowly focused vendors, has been out of the reach of most resellers due to longer salescycles that required dedicated, direct vendor sales and supportteams. The new trend is for enterprise-class fax servers thataddress both LAN and production fax requirements equally well, but are as easy to implement as workgroup fax servers. Esker isthe first vendor to deliver the advanced features of anenterprise-capable fax server with these features through thereseller channel. These features include scheduling, least costrouting, load balancing, native document conversion,PCL/PostScript support, mainframe and UNIX host links, SAPintegration, e-mail connectors, a Web client, integration withMicrosoft Management Console and a robust set of APIs forintegrating Faxgate with other production applications. "The best selling fax servers today are enterprise faxservers," states Eero Teerikorpi, vice-president of channel salesfor Esker. "Enterprise fax servers have given new life to fax asa practical business tool, allowing the integration of faxdirectly with applications and business processes to automate theflow of key business documents. Our reseller channel representsthe leading edge of where this innovative integration work isoccurring. By making our enterprise-class fax server available tothem, we're equipping them to pursue more advanced systemsintegration work that involves fax technology." Telecon Iberica, a Barcelona-based reseller, sold five, 30-line Faxgate servers at the end of May to a large customer inSpain that was looking for an enterprise fax solution. "Teleconhas historically sold to small and medium sized companies," saysAntonio Colomera, managing director of Telecon. "Alcom LanFax isideal for a department or single offices. Faxgate is ideal forlarge companies with multiple departments and locations. Theintegration of Alcom LanFax and Faxgate into a single productline provides Telecon with a fax server solution that gives uspresence in large enterprises. We're now able to offer ourservices and products to the largest companies in Spain. As aresult, we expect 1999 revenue from fax servers to be 40% of ourtotal revenue, compared to 25% in 1998." Bader Technologies, Inc., is a Nazareth, PA-based companyspecializing in systems that store, organize, and retrieve largevolumes of digital information. Fax plays a key role in the kindsof solutions Bader Technologies is implementing for itscustomers. "We have customers who use multiple fax solutions fromdifferent vendors to address their requirements," says DaveBader, president of Bader Technologies. "The problem is thatthese solutions are 'black boxes' with no customizable features -- a totally vertical product -- only doing what they weredesigned to do. You can't tie them into other applications.Having a fax solution that is an autonomous, stand-alone productjust won't cut it. The fax solution has to be extensible enoughto tie in with other things the customer is doing, like Notes andExchange. With Faxgate providing a path from Alcom LanFax into anenterprise- class fax server, we don't have to make excuses anylonger about why the customer has to have two different products.Even if they don't need the mainframe integration initially, thefact that it's there opens up LanFax as a much more powerfulchoice." Pricing and Availability Faxgate for Windows NT version 5 will be available throughauthorized Alcom resellers and distributors worldwide beginningJune 28, 1999. Software list pricing starts at $2,495 for a one-line configuration that supports 25 users and includes aMicrosoft Exchange connector and Universal Mail support.
