Newport, R.I. (PROTEXT) - The needs and concerns of thefriends and families of passengers and crew from EgyptAir Flight990 continue to be given the highest priority. The airline'schairman, Eng. Mohamed Fahim Rayan, has remained in the NewportDoubletree Hotel since arriving with the family members fromEgypt on November 2. Mr. Rayan has met with the victims' familieseveryday and has offered whatever support possible Senior EgyptAir executives are co-operating closely with theinvestigative authorities in all aspects of the investigation. EgyptAir started operations to the United States in May 1985,and since that date has safely operated 5,500 flights and carriedmore than 1.2 million passengers on the route to and from Cairo.During the same time period, the airline has safely carried morethan 50 million passengers on its international and domesticnetwork. In 1999, the EgyptAir network extended to 72destinations in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, andAfrica, and 14 domestic destinations. EgyptAir operates a modern fleet of 41 airliners including thelatest generation Boeing 777 and Airbus Industries A340 types.The average age of the fleet is 5.5 years, which makes it one ofthe youngest in the world.
