1999 Second Quarter Sales BOLOGNA, Italy (PROTEXT) - Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. (NYSE:DMH; Borsa Italiana S.p.A: DMH), a leading manufacturer of highperformance motorcycles, today announced record consolidatedsales for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 1999. Total sales for the 1999 second quarter increased 30.8% toLit. 196.1 billion (US$104.6 million) from Lit. 149.9 billion(US$79.9 million) for the second quarter of last year. This gainwas driven by strong motorcycle, spare parts and accessoriessales in Ducati's principal markets. Second quarter sales of Ducati motorcycles were Lit. 168.2billion, an increase of 31.0% over the second quarter last year,and represented 85.8% of sales. Shipments of Ducati motorcyclesin the second quarter totaled 11,963 units, an increase of 26.6%over the comparable quarter last year, and were led by Monster(+83%) and 996 Superbike (+46%) sales. During the second quarter, sales of motorcycle-relatedproducts, including spare parts, technical accessories and therecently-launched apparel line, rose 47.9% to Lit. 25.4 billion,compared to the year-ago period. Performance accessories andapparel alone more than doubled to Lit. 9.9 billion versus Lit.4.2 billion last year. Although official world registration data are not yetavailable, selected information and the Company's best estimatesfor the second quarter suggest that Ducati's motorcycleregistrations rose 20% compared to the same quarter a year ago. For the first six months of 1999, total sales increased 23.0%to Lit. 330.9 billion from Lit. 268.9 billion in the first sixmonths of last year. First-half sales of motorcycles increased23.1% to Lit. 288.3 billion over first half last year, andrepresented 87.1% of sales. First-half shipments totaled 20,073units, an increase of 20.2% over last year's comparable period,led by Monster (+41%) and 996 Superbike (+14%). First-half salesof motorcycle-related products rose 38.9% to Lit. 38.1 billionover last year. While official six-month world registration data are not yetavailable, the Company's best estimates suggest thatregistrations increased 17% during the first half compared to thesame period a year ago, with particular strength in NorthAmerica, Italy, Japan and Germany. During the second quarter, nine additional new DucatiStoresexclusively selling Ducati motorcycles and accessories wereopened, bringing the total to 41 stores worldwide at quarter-end.During the 1999 third quarter, planned store openings includeComo and a second Milan store in Italy, Bruge in Belgium, andBraunschweig and Oberhausen in Germany.
