Benson And Hedges International Open CARLSBAD, Calif. (PROTEXT) - Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) StaffProfessional Colin Montgomerie showed this past weekend that heis back in top form, winning the Benson and Hedges InternationalOpen in his first competitive event following a three-week hiatusfrom tournament golf. The three-stroke victory by Montgomeriefeatured a tournament high 17 birdies and just two bogeys inrounds of 68-66-71-68 -- 273 -- 15 under par on The Oxfordshirecourse. "I felt very refreshed and ready to play," said Montgomerie,who used 12 Callaway golf clubs -- a Great Big Bertha(R) HawkEye(R) Titanium Driver, Big Bertha(R) Steelhead(TM) 3-wood, X-12(R) Irons and Odyssey(R) Dual Force(R) 330 putter. "I hadexcellent distance control and was driving the ball as well as Ihave all year." Montgomerie's stirring final-round performance was highlightedby a heroic shot with his Steelhead 3-wood at the 71st hole.Believing he needed birdie to secure his 18th PGA European Tourvictory, Montgomerie hit a soaring shot from a downhill lie thatcarried 260 yards across a lake and landed on the green. He two-putted for birdie. "Colin was awesome. Rock solid," said Jose Maria Olazabal, theMasters champion who played in the final group with Montgomerieon Sunday. "He hit it straight down the middle and holed someputts." In other good news for Callaway Golf, Staff ProfessionalAnnika Sorenstam had her second consecutive runner-up finish onthe LPGA Tour.
