Cal Dive Awarded First Ever Deepwater Decommissioning

Project HOUSTON (ots-PRNewswire) - EEX Corporation (NYSE: EEX) hasawarded Cal Dive International, Inc. (Nasdaq: CDIS) a significantdeepwater contract to decommission and remove the productionfacilities at the Cooper Field. "This assignment represents thedeepest-ever decommissioning of an offshore development and thelargest contract in Cal Dive's 25 years of operations in the Gulfof Mexico," said Ken Duell, Senior Vice President of CDI'sDeepwater Group. The Cooper Field development is located in Garden Banks388/387 in water depths ranging from 2,000 to 2,250 fsw. Thedecommissioning work involves plugging and abandoning sevensubsea wells, recovery of subsea trees and templates, andflushing and removing pipelines, flowline jumpers and the world'stallest free standing production riser (1,400 ft.). Cal Dive willalso disconnect and tow the floating production facility to shoreand recover 12 deepwater mooring legs using the newly acquiredCal Dive Aker Dove. CDI will manage this first-of-its-kinddecommissioning project utilizing three of its deepwater vesselsand the services of alliance partners Schlumberger, Aker Marine,Canyon Offshore and Fugro McClelland as well as those of CooperCameron, Dril-Quip and FMC Corporation. "This represents a tremendous vote of confidence in Cal Dive'sability to manage a wide array of decommissioning services whileutilizing CDI's specialized fleet of DP vessels," Duellexplained.
