British Telecom Successfully Deploys 1000th Telco Systems' Access60 / Highly Complex Implementation Involving Multiple Installations Daily

Norwood, Mass. (PROTEXT) - Telco Systems, a leader in edge ofthe network access solutions and a division of World Access, Inc.(Nasdaq: WAXS), announced today that British Telecommunicationsplc (BT) has deployed over 1,000 of Telco Systems' Access60integrated access multiplexers throughout its UK network. Asignificant milestone, the installations involved an extensiveTelco Systems' support operation. "Reaching this level of deployment of our Access60 with amajor European service provider of BT's stature is verysignificant due to the scope and complexity of the deployment,"said David LeBeau, President of Telco Systems and the Transportand Access Division of World Access. "We have supplied BT with acustomised full-service solution to meet their exactingrequirements. This has involved all the varied facets ofinstallation, including on-site surveying, physical installation,testing and commissioning. Over the past year, we've beenaveraging three installations a day. This has been a massivelogistical support operation and we're extremely pleased thatwe've met the customer's requirements," LeBeau added. Part of a $15 million contract awarded to Telco Systems, theAccess60 is providing the delivery of FeatureNet, BT's premiereVPN and centrex service offering for its UK business customers.In its network, BT has deployed Access60 systems in a back-to-back configuration at both the Exchange and at the customerpremise. Among the customers are many of the UK's leading banksand major retailers. Each Access60 is equipped with a combinationof voice application modules supporting both analogue POTS (PlainOld Telephone Service) and specialised feature P-Phones. "We gave Telco Systems a challenging assignment that includedmeeting a number of specific technical requirements. A stringentservice delivery was also expected which we in turn expect tosupply to our customers. After a service ramp up period, TelcoSystems provided BT with that very high level of service," saidJohn Turner, BT FeatureNet Program Manager. "We awarded them thecontract not only because of the Access60's features and flexiblearchitecture but because Telco Systems presented us with acomplete Telephone Exchange and CPE solution that supplied allthe services required by us and our customers," said Turner. "Atthe same time, they also offered us the most cost-effectivesolution." In addition to the industry-standard interfaces, TelcoSystems' Access60 is equipped with special interface cards whichsupport the electronic business telephone sets (P-Phones). Thesephones have multi-function buttons and display and are widelyused in diverse business environments. They also support heavytraffic applications, such as reception areas and Call Centres.
