Proposed Initial Public Offering CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (PROTEXT) - Biopure Corporation todayannounced the filing of a registration statement with theSecurities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial publicoffering of its Class A common stock. All of the shares to beregistered will be offered by Biopure Corporation. J.P. Morgan &Co. is acting as the lead manager of the offering. Adams,Harkness & Hill, Inc. and Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated areacting as co-managers. Biopure is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer ofoxygen therapeutics. Its oxygen therapeutics are pharmaceuticalsthat are intravenously administered into the circulatory systemto increase oxygen delivery to the body's tissues. Biopure hasdeveloped and manufactures two hemoglobin-based oxygentherapeutic products -- Hemopure, for human use, and Oxyglobin,for veterinary use. Hemopure is currently in a pivotal Phase IIIclinical trial in the United States. Oxyglobin, the onlyhemoglobin-based oxygen carrier approved by the U.S. Food & DrugAdministration, has been commercially available since March 1998for the treatment of anemia in dogs, regardless of cause. A registration statement relating to these securities has beenfiled with the Securities and Exchange Commission but has not yetbecome effective.
