A monument to killed horses has been undraped on Austerlitz Battlefield

Pozořice August 18 (PROTEXT) - At the Stará Pošta Pozořická (Pozoricka Old Post Office) a monument to horses killed at the Austerlitz Battle was undraped on 15 August at 14:00. Bolek Polívka, monument patron, Nikos Armutidis, the sculptor, Vít Bárta, the minister of transport, who became another monument patron, his wife, Kateřina Klasnová, the vice-chairman of the Parliament, Michal Hrbata, the deputy minister of defense and other guests took part in the ceremony. Vít Bárta has been a long-term visitor and supporter of Austerlitz Project and is mainly interest in Napoleon war history. He also owns several horses.
The monument to killed horses is made of bronze and represents a statue of a life size horse at the moment of being hit by a bullet. The monument is made of more than 300 kg of bronze and its keystone was laid on 10 December 2008. It is the only monument to horses killed in wars in the Czech Republic. The monument has only been funded by private funds of people keen on military history and horse keepers from Pozoricka Old Post Office, where there is a restaurant, hotel, museum and stables. The Austerlitz Battlefield now has another monument which is worth being seen.
The event is a part of the Austerlitz Project. Monument undraping was a part of Napoleonic Days 2010, which were held in Slavkov u Brna (Austerlitz) last weekend. About two hundred soldiers and members of military history clubs from the Czech Republic and Moravia, Slovakia and Poland visited the event.
Between 3 to 5 December 2010 a memorial event will be held at Austerlitz Battlefield to commemorate the 205th anniversary of the Austerlitz Battle. On Saturday 4 December 2010 a reconstruction of this famous battle will be held under the Santon hill near the village of Tvarožná. Event organizers expect about 1500 soldiers in historical military uniforms from all over the world to take part in the battle reconstruction. Thousands of visitors will come to South Moravia to watch the event. On 5 December 2010 a pious event will be held at the Peace Monument (Mohyla Míru).
