CARLSBAD, Calif. (PROTEXT) - Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY)
Staff Professionals Colin Montgomerie and Bruce Fleisher added to
their multiple victory seasons with wins on two continents this
past weekend. Montgomerie won his fourth tournament of the year
on the PGA European Tour, cruising to a nine-stroke victory in
the Scandinavian Open at Barsebaeck, Sweden. Fleisher collected
his fifth win of the season on the Senior PGA Tour, taking the
Lightpath Long Island Classic at Jerico, N.Y.
For Montgomerie -- who used 11 Callaway clubs to shoot 20-
under-par 268 and produce the widest margin of victory of the
year on the European Tour -- the victory was never in doubt. He
began the final round with a six-stroke lead and widened it to
nine with a near-flawless round of 69 shot in rainy, windy
conditions. Montgomerie, who leads the 1999 European Order of
Merit money list, used a Great Big Bertha(R) Hawk Eye(R) Titanium
Driver, a Big Bertha(R) Steelhead(TM) 3-wood, and Big Bertha X-
12(R) Irons.
Fleisher's remarkable rookie season on the Senior PGA Tour
continued with his two-stroke victory. Using 13 Callaway golf
clubs, Fleisher collected a $180,000 first-place check to move
into first place on the money list with season earnings of $1.66
million. "This goes beyond anything I had dreamed for my first
season as a senior player," said Fleisher, who had a Callaway(R)
titanium driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 4-wood and 5-wood, Big
Bertha X-12 irons and wedges and an Odyssey(R) Rossie(R) 2 putter
in his bag. "The confidence I have in every aspect of my golf
game -- driving, iron play, putting -- is at a very high level."
The two staff professional victories highlighted another
highly successful week for Callaway Golf on the professional
tours. The top three finishers at the LPGA's areaWeb.com
Challenge at Pleasant Valley Country Club all had Callaway golf
clubs in their bags. The winner of the event used a Great Big
Bertha Hawk Eye 3-wood and Big Bertha X-12 Irons and the runner
up used a Callaway titanium driver, a Hawk Eye 9-wood and Big
Bertha X-12 Irons. Callaway Staff Professional Rachel
Hetherington, who finished third, carried 12 Callaway clubs,
including a Callaway titanium driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 3-
wood, 5-wood, 7-wood and 9-wood, Big Bertha X-12 Irons and an
Odyssey TriForce(TM) 2 putter.
