TOP 2002 hotels with largest turnovers in the Czech Republic
30.06.2003, 11:22
PRAGUE June 30 (PROTEXT) - For the ninth time, the Food-
Service professional magazine of the hotel industry, gastronomy
and special catering has put together a table of the hotels with
largest turnovers in the Czech Republic, on the basis of
questionnaires sent to a total of 200 hotels. In the final
order, the Marriott Hotel Prague placed, for the first time,
first with the total net turnover of CZK 618 million. The
Renaissance Prague Hotel ranked second (CZK 513.93 million) and
the Corinthia Towers Hotel was third (CZK 482.46 million). The
survey respondents are the hotels of domestic and foreign chains,
big hotels, independent private hotels and spa hotels. Not all
of the big hotels, however, influenced the final order because
the foreign management of the hotels Hilton, Mövenpick, Don
Giovanni and, newly this year, also the interContinental Prague,
refused to provide the data for the survey.
Nearly 59% of respondents recorded lower turnovers, compared
to 2001, 35% could proudly report improved results and the
situation of 6% respondents did not change.
The floods were responsible for the lower average occupancy
(61.09% in 2001, only 55.87% in 2002). The average room price
also dropped, as well as, of course, the hotels' turnovers. Most
hotel owners are optimistic, though, hoping for the improvement
of their situation this year. In addition to the impact of the
war conflict in Iraq on tourism, the hotel owners say the biggest
problems they have to face is the lack of quality and loyal
employees. More then one-half of the respondents will have to
renovate of completely reconstruct their hotels.
