Investments With Baan E-Enterprise Solution
BARNEVELD, The Netherlands and RESTON, Va., (PROTEXT) - Baan
E-Enterprise(TM) Solution Powered By Microsoft(R) Site Server
Includes Baan E-Sales(TM), Baan E-Collaboration(TM), Baan E-
Procurement(TM); Applications Offer 'Snap-In' Integration with
Existing Front- and Back-Office Infrastructure
Baan Company N.V. (Amsterdam: BAAN; Nasdaq: BAANF) today
announced its Baan E-Enterprise(TM) suite of Web-enabled
enterprise software applications that facilitate business between
the entire "value chain" of employees, partners, resellers,
suppliers, and multiple customer tiers. Based on the
Microsoft(R) Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition(TM) platform, Baan
Company customers can now take advantage of the power of their
existing Baan enterprise applications through the addition of
these high-ROI business-to-business e-commerce, supply-chain
collaboration and indirect procurement solutions.
Adhering to the Baan Company vision of an "extended
enterprise," Baan E-Enterprise(TM) is the first in a series of
product deliveries focused on meeting the needs of electronic
business. Baan E-Enterprise consists of three applications: Baan
E-Sales(TM), Baan E-Collaboration(TM) and Baan E-Procurement(TM).
With general availability in June 1999, the new application suite
leverages 18 months of unique experience by Baan Company in
developing proven, best-in-class customer facing front-office
applications. Unlike the yet-to-ship products announced by other
vendors, the new Baan application suite does not require re-
investment in a new back-office foundation. Instead, it enables
customers to leverage their existing investment in Baan
Operations Management (specifically the BaanIV series of
products, BaanERP(TM), and Baan supply-chain solutions),
Corporate Management (human resources and financials
applications), and Customer Management (specifically BaanSales
and BaanConfiguration) software by offering packaged "snap-in"
integration with these Baan products.
"As a leader in enterprise applications, Baan clearly
understands how to get its customers to the next level of
Internet application functionality," said Charles Stevens, vice
president, Microsoft Application Developers Customer Unit. "By
combining Baan E-Enterprise applications with Microsoft Site
Server 3.0 Commerce Edition, Baan customers will benefit from a
flexible e-commerce platform that enables IT departments to
develop next-generation information portals, extended supply-
chains and sophisticated selling solutions."
"One of our top business priorities this year is to develop a
Web-based customer-ordering process that integrates with our ERP
system," said Robert Owen, director of IS at Microchip Technology
Incorporated. "When we realized that Baan E-Enterprise could
both give us the ability to extend our in-house e-commerce
system, while extending our currently installed Baan ERP system
to the Web, we became very interested. Industry analysts are
saying that companies can't forget to integrate existing back-end
fulfillment and business processes when moving to e-commerce. As
a beta customer on Baan E-Enterprise, we have the opportunity to
integrate our Web presence and fulfillment systems into a single
service center for our customers."
Baan E-Enterprise: Baan Company Leads Industry with Delivery
of Shipping Product
Baan E-Enterprise is the latest offering in a series of
firsts for Baan Company: The first back office vendor to acquire
and integrate a full-fledged front-office vendor; the first
vendor to bring to market a complete front- to back-office
enterprise software suite; the first vendor to offer
comprehensive dynamic enterprise modeling (DEM); the first vendor
to deliver a complete low cost bundled product solution on a
Microsoft technology stack (Baan Enterprise Software Agreement-
BESA); the first vendor to deliver an enterprise-class browser-
based front-office product; Baan is now the first vendor to ship
an e-commerce suite that provides an "information hub" and
extends information all the way through to several tiers of
customers.
The Baan E-Enterprise solution is comprised of:
