Personal Video Recorder MediaTV from Axcent
24.01.2000, 13:01
Paderborn, Germany (PROTEXT) - At CeBIT 2000 Axcent Media AG
will be the first European vendor to present a personal video
recorder (PVR) for the broad consumer market. MediaTV not only
keeps viewers independent of transmission and programme start
times but also offers the individual viewer a TV programme to
suit his personal interests. The fact that MediaTV uses the
extensive, digital free TV offering and costs less than DM 1,500
now makes personal TV generally affordable.
Around 250 stations in Europe currently broadcast digital
programmes that can be received per satellite free of charge.
From this wide offering MediaTV uses a profile entered by the
user to select all the programmes of interest and records them
automatically if so desired. Thus, for example the machine will
record all "science fiction films" or all "films starring Richard
Gere".
What is more, MediaTV makes viewers independent of
transmission and start times. As the appliance is able to play a
recorded programme with a time stagger while it is still
recording, viewers can, for example, simply delay kick-off in a
soccer game by half an hour until they get home in the evening.
Completely independently of recording times, MediaTV allows
programmes not only to be played but also halted, rewound or
shown in slow motion.
MediaTV receives the free TV programmes that are broadcast
over satellite in its integrated digital receiver and saves the
contents to its hard disk. The devices offer complete video
recorder functionality when it comes to recording and playing
content. However, MediaTV is 'programmed' via an integrated
clearly structured programme journal, easier to use than on any
other device. This detailed information on all station programmes
is broadcast regularly per satellite. Axcent will offer this data
service free of charge for MediaTV. MediaTV can also be used as a
platform for the new multimedia services which are offered per
cable network, satellite, ADSL or the Internet hand in hand with
the progress made by digital television. ots Original Text
