New editorial rooms
CTK
AS ONE OF A FEW NEWS AGENCIES IN CENTRAL EUROPE HAS HAD SINCE THE END
OF 2003 A LARGE NEWS ROOM BASED ON THE REUTERS OR BBC MODEL.
It has built within its possibilities
interconnected spaces on a total area of almost 750 m2 with 155 desks
on the 3rd fl oor at its headquarters in Opletalova Street in Prague.
In the biggest of the three new rooms - about 350 m2 – 100 persons work
at 79 desks. This is the central workplace which directs the home,
foreign, regional and business news services. It also coordinates
cooperation with the sports, documentary and export (English) desks,
with infographics, audio and society service (mix).
The second biggest space has
approximately 280 m2 with 48 working places. For the time being
graphics, mix and audio, which has its own sound booth, work there. The
CTK subsidiary – agency for Internet and New Media Neris, has taken up
about a third of the space. Another 22 desks that are vacant for the
time being will be occupied as the integration and multimedialisation
of the news service will be progressing.
The third room of more than 100 m2 is
occupied by the sports desk with 18 persons. A meeting room is part of
it.
The joint room has been created with the
aim to integrate the news service, to improve and speed it up, to raise
work productivity. It can be said already now, less than half a year
since the news rooms inauguration, that it enables an easier, simpler
and more operative direction, a better and more effective use of the
staff, continuous cooperation and coordination. The news agency could
at the end of last year prepare for this clients a list of support key
words, joint for all editorial desks. At the same time subscribers
could record an acceleration of the regional service, a more frequent
use of news versions and summaries in the news service. The news
service also contains more requested news items about health, science
and technology, and life style.
Team work implies team responsibility,
and this should be an indication of further improving of the news
service in the future..
Extended facts on EU
IN THE LAST WEEK OF JANUARY 2004 WE
ACCESSED TO THE INFOBANK CLIENTS AN EXTENDED DATABASE FACTS ON THE EU.
IT CONTAINS MORE THAN 600 DOCUMENTS, WHICH IS ALMOST TEN TIMES MORE

The documents are constantly updated and
supplemented. We believe that our clients will gain there a better
knowledge of themes concerning the European Union.
Facts
on the EU database is useful for those who need to know the content of
documents issued by the European Union and its
bodies. For example, characteristics of individual contracts and
programmes, the development of relations with other countries (Russia,
USA…), dictionary entries of important “European” terms. Most documents
are completed by the Internet and a reference to further related
materials.
Further EU information sources provided by the Czech News Agency:

securities - shares, bonds, participation certificates – registered in
the republic, related news and archive.
BROAD OFFER OF FUNCTIONS
For example fast searching, tree display,
filtration of data and formation of individual query configurations, a

also relations that are covert at first sight, multilevel, when for
instance two companies are connected through two persons in different
companies. The graphic depiction of such a “tangle” in a so called
relational diagram is done by one mouse click.
MODULARITY
The licence policy is adapted to various
combinations of function modules as well as data collections. Everybody
who has a workstation with Internet access can use MAGNUS. The price
for the first licence ranges between 1 300 to 13 000 Kc per month.
Stanislav Mundil’s book
THE BOOK “PARIS BY THE DEADLINE OR FROM CHIRAC TO AMÉLIE” BY STANISLAV
MUNDIL, CTK CORRESPONDENT IN PARIS, WILL BE ISSUED BY THE TRITON PUBLISHING HOUSE.
In 1996 to 2001, as a CTK correspondent, he
saw a lot to write about. For example about the turnabout after the
early elections when Jacques Chirac discredited himself and Lionel
Jospin became a star, political scandals, the victory of France at the
world soccer championship, the bombing of Yugoslavia and another
several elections, which reflected France, institutions and people from
various points of view.
There were also events which have only a
limited importance in the long run, such as the death of Princess
Diana. All this is depicted in the book, which is not a comprehensive
analysis, but rather a compilation of fragments from a diary of those
five years. It offers views of the pompous and a little bit comic world
of French politics, intellectual as well as less intellectual
discussions, which come and go in regular waves in France, the world of
French media as well as the phenomenon which natives as well as
foreigners call "the French exception".
