Professional Bruce Fleisher has written his name into another
section of the record books with his seventh Senior PGA Tour win
of the 1999 season. With his victory at the EMC2 Kaanapali
Classic, Fleisher tied the record for wins by a rookie held by
Lee Trevino and Bruce Crampton. Fleisher already had set new
senior standards by winning the first two events in which he
competed and by becoming the first senior to win more than $2
million in his rookie season.
In each of his seven victories this year, Fleisher has used 13
Callaway Golf clubs. In his win this past weekend, Fleisher
continued his phenomenal play with Callaway Golf's new Hawk
Eye(R) Tungsten Injected(R) Titanium Irons, which he first put in
the bag at the Kroger Senior Classic, played Sept. 24- 26. He
also carried a Callaway Golf titanium driver and Big Bertha(R)
Steelhead(TM) 4-wood and 5-wood, and he used an Odyssey(R) Dual
Force(R) 664 Putter. Fleisher increased his lead on the money
list with the $150,000 first prize, and he also leads the tour in
scoring average (69.24) and top-10 finishes (17).
Since switching to the new Hawk Eye Irons, Fleisher has
improved upon his already sizzling scoring. In the 15 tournament
rounds he has played since putting the Hawk Eye Irons in his bag,
Fleisher's stroke average is an amazing 67.6 and he has hit 76.7
percent of greens in regulation, recording 12 rounds in the 60s
during this stretch.
"I've been trying to get some extra height on my iron shots
for the last few years, but I figured age had taken that away
from me," said Fleisher, 51. "But not with these new Hawk Eye
irons. Now, I'm hitting the ball higher without losing distance.
The bottom line is that I'm hitting wonderful shots."
With only two events remaining on the Senior PGA Tour
schedule, Fleisher appears on course to win Senior PGA Tour
Rookie of the Year, the money title and the Byron Nelson Trophy
for lowest stroke average.
