LOS GATOS, Calif. (PROTEXT) - Company Enhances Industry
Leading VoDSL Solution and Partnerships to Meet Rapidly Growing
Voice and Data Service Delivery Needs of European Carriers
Jetstream Communications, the leading supplier of Voice over
DSL (VoDSL) equipment to incumbent and competitive local exchange
carriers, announced today its strategy for enabling international
carriers to address the local voice and data service opportunity
within the increasingly competitive European telecommunications
market. The strategy includes a new international version of its
industry leading VoDSL solution as well as a broadening of its
existing partnerships with leading global telecommunications
equipment manufactures including Alcatel, ECI Telecom, Nortel
Networks, Orckit and Nokia. In conjunction with this
announcement, Jetstream will be demonstrating its solution at
Telecom '99 this week in Geneva within the booths of Alcatel,
Ericsson, Lucent Technologies, Orckit, and Adaptive Broadband.
"The competitive local telecommunications market in Europe is
set to take off quickly over the next year," said Jeff Wilson,
director of corporate access with Infonetics Research, a leading
networking telecommunications market research and consulting
company. "One of the last remaining hurdles for European carriers
in deploying local voice and data services has been the last mile
challenge. By enabling carriers to leverage broadband access
technologies such as DSL and fixed wireless to deliver both voice
and data services, the Jetstream solution goes a long way toward
meeting that challenge."
New Product Enhancements
Because its VoDSL solution implements a standards-based,
messaging- oriented signaling protocol that is fully V5 and ISDN
compatible, Jetstream is uniquely positioned to quickly address
the product requirements of the European market. New features
available in the international version of Jetstream's CPX-1000
Voice Gateway include full support for the V5 series of Class 5
switch interfaces (ITU G.964, ETSI V5.1, and ITU G.965, ETSI
V5.2) using E-1 facilities as well as an STM-1 155Mbps optical
interface for connecting to broadband access networks.
Jetstream's European IADs are also being enhanced to support both
POTS and ISDN basic rate interfaces for the delivery of local
voice services as well as both Ethernet and V.35 subscriber
interfaces for the delivery of data services. The international
version of Jetstream's leading VoDSL solution is scheduled for
availability in the first quarter of 2000.
"Our robust, messaging-oriented signaling approach used in our
Voice over DSL solution is proving to be a significant advantage
for us as we enter International markets," said David Frankel,
Chairman and CTO for Jetstream. "The vast majority of
international telecommunications signaling standards are
messaging-based, making our transition into the European market
straightforward and timely."
Leading Partnerships
The second component of Jetstream's international strategy
includes a broadening of its existing partnerships with major
international telecommunications equipment suppliers. Jetstream
has already demonstrated interoperability of its leading VoDSL
solution with all leading European telecommunications equipment
manufacturers including Alcatel, ECI Telecom, Lucent
Technologies, Nokia, Nortel Networks, and Orckit. In addition,
Jetstream plans to leverage its existing OEM relationship with
both Alcatel and Nortel Networks as they enter the European
market.
"Orckit is the leading supplier of DSLAM systems to European
operators that have already begun full commercial deployments,"
said Nigel Cole, Vice President of Business development for
Orckit. "The combined Orckit/Jetstream end-to-end solution, which
has already been proven to be interoperable, will immediately
enable Orckit customers to begin delivering carrier-class voice
over DSL services."
"Jetstream pioneered Voice over DSL and is firmly established
as the leading solution provider in the North American market,"
said S. Sundi Sundaresh, President and CEO for Jetstream. "Today
we are announcing a winning product and partnership strategy that
will extend our leadership position to a global level."
About Jetstream VoDSL
The Jetstream VoDSL broadband access solution enables carriers
to deliver multi-line local telephone service and high-speed data
over packet-based DSL access networks. It consists of three
components. The first, the CPX-1000, is a large-scale voice
gateway that resides in a carrier's regional switching center and
serves as a bridge between a Class 5 voice switch and a DSL
access network. The second component is a family of integrated
access devices (IADs) provided by Jetstream and its partner
companies. IADs connect to a DSL, T1, E1 or fixed wireless radio
at subscriber premises and deliver up to 24 telephone lines and
continuous high-speed Internet or remote local area network (LAN)
access. The last component, Jet-EMS, is a carrier-class element
management system enabling rapid deployment of large-scale VoDSL
networks.
