Sonic Telecom, Ltd. Unveils 'By the Byte' Multiple Media Service Between USA and Europe
21.09.1999, 16:14
CHANTILLY, Va. (PROTEXT) - Sonic Telecom, Ltd. today activated
the telecommunication industry's first network to offer
international bandwidth on demand. Global customers can use
bandwidth between the USA and Western Europe as needed, paying by
the byte for the transmission resources actually used on a single
monthly bill.
Sonic Telecom, a pioneer in the newly emerging category of
International Telecommunications Service Providers, delivers end-
to-end service, eliminating the need for customers to buy
equipment or sign up for long-term contracts. The company's
unique approach to voice-data-video services not only cuts
customers' direct transmission costs; it reduces the number of
lines needed and the cost of managing a global business.
In a challenge to the industry, Sonic Telecom President and
CEO Todd Ruelle invited users of trans-Atlantic private lines and
frame relay services to reexamine the structure of those
services.
"Demand that your current carrier provide bandwidth on demand
and billing based on usage," Ruelle said. "If they don't -- or
can't -- provide it, Sonic Telecom will."
Privately-held Sonic Telecom provides access, transport and
termination for transmission of video, data and voice on a single
network at a fraction of the cost -- and with greater flexibility
-- than the private lines and frame relay services offered by
AT&T, MCI/WorldCom, British Telecom or Sprint. It has points of
presence in Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, London, New York, and
Paris. The Chantilly, Virginia-based company plans service
expansion throughout North America in 4Q'99. Viatel
International, Inc. (Nasdaq: VYTL) is an equity holder and
strategic partner in the company.
