Callaway Golf Staff Professional Pierre Fulke Captures His First European Victory In Dramatic Style
21.09.1999, 09:48
CARLSBAD, Calif. (PROTEXT) - Pierre Fulke became the latest
Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional to earn his first
tour victory in 1999 with a dramatic PGA European Tour victory at
the Trophee Lancome. Fulke, 28, posted four rounds in the 60s en
route to the biggest payday of his seven years on the European
tour. Fulke joins fellow Callaway Golf Staff Professionals Bruce
Fleisher (Senior PGA Tour) and Carlos Franco (PGA Tour) in
breaking through to the winner's circle this year.
Fulke, who sealed his victory with a birdie putt on the final
green, used 12 Callaway Golf(R) clubs in his victory, including a
Great Big Bertha(R) Hawk Eye(R) Titanium Driver, Callaway Golf
fairway woods and Big Bertha(R) X-12(R) Irons. Drivers made by
Callaway Golf have now accounted for 51 wins on the world's five
major professional tours this year -- more than any other
manufacturer, according to the Darrell Survey Company and Sports
Marketing Surveys, Ltd.
One of Fulke's closest pursuers in the final round was
Callaway Golf Staff Professional Colin Montgomerie, who finished
tied for third. Playing in the Trophee Lancome while tuning up
for this week's Ryder Cup Matches, Montgomerie used 11 Callaway
Golf clubs, including a Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye Titanium
Driver, Big Bertha(R) Steelhead(TM) 3-wood, and Big Bertha X-12
Irons. Montgomerie's high finish -- following two wins and a
second-place finish in his previous three European events -- also
solidifies his chances for a record-breaking seventh consecutive
Volvo Order of Merit title. Callaway Golf Staff Professional Gary
Evans also recorded a top-10 finish at the Trophee Lancome.
Other Callaway Golf Staff Professionals posted strong finishes
around the world over the weekend. Stephen Ames shot 12-under-par
at the B.C. Open to finish fourth for his second top-10 finish on
the PGA Tour in the last month. Jim Colbert and David Graham
finished tied for fourth at the Bank One Championship after
posting matching 69s in the final round of the Senior PGA Tour
event. And in Seoul, South Korea, Kyi Hla Han hit every fairway
and green during the final round in his second-place finish at
the Kolon Korean Open to remain atop the Asian PGA Davidoff
Tour's Order of Merit.
