Esker PLUS Version 3.1 Now Available
3.09.1999, 18:43
Stillwater, Oklahoma (PROTEX) - Esker today announces Esker
PLUS version 3.1, a new version of its Web-to-host connectivity
software for enterprises that need to centrally administer end-
user access to a variety of host types and network resources.
Esker PLUS version 3.1 is a complete, browser-based resource
kit that utilizes centralized LDAP administration to deliver
simple access to terminal emulation, printers, disks, databases,
network and other resources like URLs, documents and FTP
configurations. Elegant, browser-based administration allows
delivery of pre-configured host access to users via simple URL
access from a corporate or departmental Web page whether from the
intranet or the internet. For users taking advantage of multiple
resources delivered through Esker PLUS 3.1, a simple, browser-
based WebTop is used to easily access and manage resources such
as multiple host access, printers and FTP configurations.
New features in Esker PLUS version 3.1 simplify the process of
getting the right users connected to the right host applications.
Esker PLUS now offers URL access, a powerful new method to launch
an emulation session that allows customers, business partners or
employees with a single click, through a familiar HTML
environment, access legacy information from their Web browsers.
URL access eliminates steps usually required when accessing
legacy applications with terminal emulation software.
The size of the Esker PLUS components has been optimized to
better address the needs of remote users. Remote users can be
configured for light to full- featured access depending on their
requirements, eliminating the download of unnecessary
functionality at the start of a remote session by creating a
smaller applet. In a Java implementation of Esker PLUS version
3.1, the applet size for light access is as small as 190 kb.
Other new features in Esker PLUS version 3.1 include:
-- Automatic support for Netscape Web Server and Netscape
Directory Service within the setup procedure

server
