Broomfield, Colo. (PROTEXT) - McDATA Provides the Expertise
and Methodology to Implement Enterprise-Wide Storage Area
Networks.
McDATA Corporation, the Enterprise Fibre Channel Company,
unveiled its Fibre Channel Services Methodology Version 3.0 suite
that enables its partners to implement highly available SANs
quickly and efficiently using a field-proven SAN project delivery
methodology. Amdahl Corporation recently licensed McDATA's
methodology and plans to offer SAN-related professional services
through its 10,000 consultants.
"Selecting and implementing the Fibre Channel solution that
best meets the requirements of an organization's IT (information
technology) strategy can be a daunting task due to the abundant
details, numerous options and a risk of encountering unforeseen
obstacles," stated Jack McDonnell, chairman, president and CEO of
McDATA Corporation. "Many hardware providers offer assistance in
addressing these challenges. But none have developed an extensive
integrated approach for SAN project delivery like the methodology
developed here at McDATA," McDonnell pointed out. McDATA now
offers a consistent, field proven and well-documented methodology
for planning, implementing, validating and operating a Fibre
Channel SAN.
"This recently acquired methodology combined with Amdahl's
non-proprietary, open standards strategy positions Amdahl to
emerge as an industry leader in the implementation of cost-
effective and highly reliable SAN solutions," said Bobby Young,
director of the Data Management Practice at Amdahl. "The McDATA
Fibre Channel Services Methodology will help Amdahl consultants
to significantly reduce guesswork and deliver customer-focused
value that is standardized, repeatable and scalable." The
solutions being developed and tested in McDATA's extensive
Systems Integration Lab form the technical foundation and process
of the methodology.
McDATA's professional services are available to IT
organizations through qualified McDATA channel experts,
representing global partners such as Amdahl. These partners have
the expertise and methodology needed to facilitate the rapid
implementation of a Fibre Channel SAN and access to McDATA's
educational services and continually updated Fibre Channel
knowledge base.
McDATA developed a methodology for every phase of implementing
a SAN, from assessment and configuration to validation and
operation, using a comprehensive stage and phase approach. A
McDATA-qualified Fibre Channel expert works closely with the
company to develop a SAN program that will meet the company's
specific strategic objectives. The plan provides a customized
approach to developing a flexible, scalable network design, which
can be cost-effectively implemented and managed.
