Facility in Mexico
Taylor, Mich. (PROTEXT) - MascoTech Forming Technologies-
Sintered Components, a division of MascoTech, Inc. (NYSE: MSX),
has begun construction of a new powder metal forging facility in
Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico. This investment supports the
Company's strategy to market its successful powder metal
connecting rods and other powder metal automotive components on a
global basis.
MascoTech Sintered Components Mexico, S. de. R.L. de C.V. will
be located in the Saltillo-Ramos Arizpe industrial park, an area
of expanding automotive- related activity. At full capacity, the
90,000 sq. ft. facility is expected to employ 280 people who will
operate several fully-integrated powder metal connecting rod
lines with additional capacity for select conventionally
processed powder metal components such as engine sprockets and
bearing caps.
"This demonstrates MascoTech's commitment to support our
customers, globally. The Ramos Arizpe facility will enable
MascoTech to better serve our Mexican customer base and broaden
our supply to other Mexican-based engine manufacturers," said Lee
Runk, MascoTech Forming Technologies group president.
"The addition of this facility to MascoTech Sintered
Components, combined with our recent acquisition of Windfall
Products, creates one of the world's largest independent powder
metal manufacturing companies," Runk added. "When the Ramos
Arizpe facility is complete, MascoTech will operate eight powder
metal facilities in Europe, North America, Mexico and Brazil that
are strategically located to serve our global automotive customer
base."
The company recently completed the construction of a powder
metal facility in Valencia, Spain which began production earlier
this year.
In a related announcement, MascoTech is pleased to announce
the appointment of Alfonso Aguado Cortes to manage all facets of
the manufacturing operations at the Ramos Arizpe facility. Cortes
has extensive automotive manufacturing experience, having key
manufacturing responsibilities in several Chrysler Mexico, S.A.
facilities and, most recently, an automotive supply facility for
another automotive supplier.
MascoTech is a diversified manufacturing company with world-
leading metal forming process capabilities and proprietary
product positions serving transportation and industrial markets.
Note: On August 26 MascoTech announced the acquisition of
Windfall Products, Inc. of St. Marys, PA. Windfall is a leading
manufacturer of transportation-related powder metal components.
The combination of Windfall and the Saltillo-Ramos Arizpe
facility with MascoTech's existing powder metal component
facilities, creates one of the world's largest independent powder
metal manufacturing companies with eight facilities in Europe,
North America, Mexico and Brazil.
Powder metal forged connecting rods were developed and first
manufactured by MascoTech in the mid-1980's and successfully
commercialized through the 90's. The North American automotive
marketplace has rapidly incorporated the advantages of PM rods,
having purchased over 100 million rods from MascoTech.
