In another multiple-win weekend for Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) on the pro tours, Staff Professionals Colin Montgomerie and Rosie Jones each earned significant victories over the weekend. Montgomerie continued his dominance of the PGA European Tour with a three-stroke win at the BMW International Open in Germany -- his fifth victory of 1999. Meanwhile, Jones won a three-way playoff at the Firstar LPGA Classic in Ohio, extending to five consecutive years her streak of at least one annual LPGA Tour victory. Montgomerie used 11 Callaway Golf(R) clubs in this, his 22nd PGA European Tour victory, including a Great Big Bertha(R) Hawk Eye(R) Titanium Driver, Big Bertha(R) Steelhead(TM) 3-wood and Big Bertha(R) X-12(R) Irons. The win virtually clinched a record- breaking seventh consecutive Volvo Order of Merit title for Montgomerie. Montgomerie's nearest challenger at the BMW International Open used two Callaway Golf titanium fairway woods -- including a Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye 4-wood -- in his successful attempt to earn a spot on the European Ryder Cup team. Montgomerie is the European Ryder Cup team's No.1 player. Callaway Staff Professional Jesper Parnevik also was named to the team as a captain's pick for the biennial matches Sept. 24-26. Jones outlasted two competitors in a four-hole playoff to win her 10th LPGA Tour title. She used 12 Callaway Golf clubs, including a Callaway Golf titanium driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 3-wood, 5-wood-, 7-wood and 9-wood, and Big Bertha X-12 Irons. The other two competitors in the sudden-death playoff also used drivers made by Callaway Golf. The final golfer defeated by Jones in the playoff used a Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye Titanium Driver and four Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye Fairway Woods. In all, 11 of the top 13 finishers at the Firstar LPGA Classic used drivers made by Callaway Golf. A pair of Callaway Golf Staff Professionals also notched third-place finishes at tour events over the weekend. Stephen Ames finished third at the PGA Tour Sprint International while using 13 Callaway Golf clubs, including a Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye Titanium Driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 3-wood and Big Bertha X-12 Irons and Wedges. And David Graham finished tied for third at the Senior PGA Tour BankBoston Classic using 13 Callaway Golf clubs, including a Callaway Golf titanium driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 4-wood and Big Bertha X-12 Irons and Wedges. The professional tours weren't the only place Callaway Golf clubs found success over the weekend. The winner of the 1999 U.S. Amateur used a Big Bertha Steelhead 3-wood and a Big Bertha X-12 2-iron in his 9-and-8 victory in the finals. Callaway Golf drivers and fairway woods were the No. 1 choice of the field at Pebble Beach Golf Links for this year's U.S. Amateur. According to the Darrell Survey Company, 40.7 percent of the drivers put in play at the event were made by Callaway Golf, compared to 32.1 percent for the nearest competitor. And 55.8 percent of the fairway woods put in play were made by Callaway Golf, compared to 11.4 percent for the nearest competitor.
