Callaway Golf Staff Professional Colin Montgomerie Wins

Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Colin Montgomerie showed this past weekend that he is back in top form, winning the Benson and Hedges International Open in his first competitive event following a three-week hiatus from tournament golf. The three-stroke victory by Montgomerie featured a tournament high 17 birdies and just two bogeys in rounds of 68-66-71-68 -- 273 -- 15 under par on The Oxfordshire course. "I felt very refreshed and ready to play," said Montgomerie, who used 12 Callaway golf clubs -- a Great Big Bertha(R) Hawk Eye(R) Titanium Driver, Big Bertha(R) Steelhead(TM) 3-wood, X- 12(R) Irons and Odyssey(R) Dual Force(R) 330 putter. "I had excellent distance control and was driving the ball as well as I have all year." Montgomerie's stirring final-round performance was highlighted by a heroic shot with his Steelhead 3-wood at the 71st hole. Believing he needed birdie to secure his 18th PGA European Tour victory, Montgomerie hit a soaring shot from a downhill lie that carried 260 yards across a lake and landed on the green. He two- putted for birdie. "Colin was awesome. Rock solid," said Jose Maria Olazabal, the Masters champion who played in the final group with Montgomerie on Sunday. "He hit it straight down the middle and holed some putts." In other good news for Callaway Golf, Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam had her second consecutive runner-up finish on the LPGA Tour. Sorenstam used 11 Callaway golf clubs -- a Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye Titanium Driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 3-wood and 7-wood, Big Bertha X-12 Irons and an Odyssey TriForce(TM) II putter -- to finish one stroke behind eventual winner Meg Mallon in the Sara Lee Classic at the Hermitage Course in Old Hickory, Tenn. Sorenstam, who opened the tournament with an LPGA record round of 11-under-par 61, shot 16-under-par 200 in the 54-hole event. And on the Senior PGA Tour, Callaway Staff Professional Dave Eichelberger used 12 Callaway golf clubs -- a Big Bertha Steelhead Driver, a Callaway steel 3-wood, a Steelhead 5-wood, and Big Bertha X-12 Irons -- to finish second in the Las Vegas Senior Classic.
