With his victory at the MasterCard Colonial this past weekend, Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Olin Browne became the seventh Callaway Golf Staff Professional to win on one of the world's five major tours in the last five weeks. Browne scorched Colonial Country Club with a pair of 66s over the final 36 holes to win his second PGA Tour title. Less than a year earlier, Browne had earned his first PGA Tour victory by winning the Canon Greater Hartford Open. "To win at Colonial, where there is a real premium on ball- striking, is something I'm very proud of," said Browne, who turned 40 on Saturday. "I was really hitting my driver and fairway woods great, and I was in control of my iron play." In registering his 8-under-par total of 272 at Colonial, Browne used 12 Callaway golf clubs, including a Great Big Bertha(R) Hawk Eye(R) Titanium Driver, Big Bertha(R) Steelhead(TM) 3-wood and 4- wood and Big Bertha X-12(R) Irons. Browne's main weapons in his assault on "Hogan's Alley" were his Big Bertha Steelhead Fairway Woods. In the final round, he eagled the par-5 first hole after hitting his Steelhead 4-wood to 20 feet, then added another eagle with a huge second shot on the par-5 11th hole -- reaching the 11th green with his Steelhead 3- wood from 286 yards out to set up his 40-foot eagle putt. Playing several groups ahead of the leaders, those two eagles gave Brown the breathing room he needed to claim victory over five golfers who finished one stroke back. Browne's victory earned him $504,000 -- the largest check of his career and enough to move him into the top 40 of the PGA Tour money list. He also earned a return invitation to the Mercedes Championships, the winners-only event he qualified for but missed this year due to off-season elbow surgery. Callaway Golf Staff Professionals have now collected more than $2 million in winners' checks over the past five weeks. That includes victories by Jesper Parnevik (Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic), Bruce Fleisher (Home Depot Invitational), Rachel Hetherington (Chick-fil-A Charity Championship, City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic), Carlos Franco (Compaq Classic), Colin Montgomerie (Benson and Hedges International Open) and Browne. In addition, Callaway Golf Staff Professionals also continue to win on other tours around the world. Callaway Golf Staff Professional Kyi Hla Han won the Volvo China Open in Shanghai last weekend. Han used a Callaway titanium driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 4-wood, Big Bertha X-12 Irons and an Odyssey(R) Dual Force(R) Rossie I Putter to post a commanding seven-stroke victory. Han, 38, opened his final round with a spectacular run of five consecutive birdies. "The key was driving the ball well and setting myself up perfectly in the fairway," said Han, whose victory vaulted him to second place on the Asian Order of Merit money list.
