HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (PROTEXT)
SCI Systems, Inc. (NYSE: SCI) ("SCI") of Huntsville Ala. confirmed today that it has been selected by Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) ("HP"), Palo Alto, Calif., to build inkjet printers on a finished product basis in Hungary. SCI said that initial production will begin in June of 1999. The products will be manufactured at SCI's plant in Tatabanya, Hungary, which will be expanded to accommodate this, and other, recently acquired new business. SCI will perform finished product assembly and test. This follows the announcement last month confirming a similar production agreement with HP for printers being manufactured at an SCI facility in Guadalajara, Mexico. SCI's President & COO, A. E. Sapp, stated that, "we are pleased to be able to assist our customer with this multinational approach to providing cost- effective manufacturing in this product area." He added that, "the selection of Central Europe as the locale for this program and the necessity to expand such a relatively new facility confirm the long-term viability and attractiveness of SCI's Hungarian location."
